Died February 28, 2012 at Western Hills Rehabilitation Center in Cincinnati, OH. Beloved father of Barbara Kelley of Cedar Grove, IN, Marcellus Ronald (Kathy) of Cincinnati, OH and Carol Driggers (James) of Guilford, IN. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, Douglas Schoenung (Kathy), Brian Schoenung, Steven Schoenung, and Amy Hoff (Tim); Marcellus Marc Abel, (Diane) Timothy Abel (Penny) James Driggers, Daniel Driggers (Rula) and Michael Driggers; 17 great grandchildren; Also survived by many nieces and nephews, and a special brother and sister in law, Jay and Geraldine Wood (nee Goebel) of Cincinnati, OH. Max was born October 29, 1921 in Cincinnati, the son of the late Marcellus Richard Abel and Clara Elizabeth Abel (nee Tanner) He was preceded in death by a brother Donald Abel, and his loving wife of 51 years, Ruth Helen Abel (nee Goebel). Max and Ruth were married on October 8, 1942 and had a loving relationship until her death in 1994. He followed in his father’s footsteps and became a Cincinnati police officer. He joined the force in 1951 and retired as a police sergeant in 1978. He was a lifetime member of the FOP. After his retirement from the force he worked for WKRC TV in the news room and in Security at the EPA. Max was an avid gardener, and enjoyed bowling and golf. Services will be at the Radel Funeral Home 650 Neeb Rd. Cincinnati, Ohio. Mass of the Christian Burial at with interment following at the St. Joseph New Cemetery. In leau of flowers the family request donations be made to Delhi Skirt Game or the North Dearborn Food Pantry.
